This was actually my first time seeing it with the new cast- last time i saw it was in May when Lea and Jon left. I'll make it quick.
In general, i was really happy to still feel connected to the show. I was worried that, because i'd seen it so many times and because the OBC was gone it wouldn't be the same. I'm glad i'm still in love with it.
These are my thoughts on each actor:
Alexandra Socha (Wendla): I have conflicting feeling about her. I felt that she looked and sounded like the part, i thought her physique was actually better fitting than Lea, she looked 14 to me. However, her acting just didn't cut it. I saw little emotion. Lines that were supposed to have so much emotion behind them were said monotone in that weak little voice of hers. Everything she said was so light and emotionless it got so annoying. The only time i saw feeling was when she was yelling at her mother and crying "why didn't you tell me everything, etc." But, idk, it seemed like she portrayed Wendla better because shes supposed to be that childish and innocent. She also does this weird squinty-thing that bugged me the entire show.
Christine Estabrook (Adult Woman): Out of all the actors, she was my absolute favorite tonight. I felt like she was so dynamic. She played each part beautifully, and i was blow away by her performance. I guess its because shes an OBC member, but i really really enjoyed seeing her, especially when she played The schoolmaster.
Amanda Castanos (Martha) Not much to say about her, but i think she played the part wonderfully, she had a lot of emotion, and was really sweet at stage door. ^.^
Emma Hunton(Ilse): ok....I really didn't like emma before tonight.. but now i like her a bit more. She sung well, and worked well with tonight's moritz. Though she was great on stage, maybe it was just a bad afternoon, but she looked really pissed off/tired/bitchy at stage door. She did have the same pants that I did though
Alice Lee (Anna) We got an understudy for this show, and i liked her. She was one of my favorites on stage actually. ^.^
Caitlin Kinnuen (Thea) I thought Caitlin was so cute! She had the whole nerdy look going with glasses, it was absolutely adorable. And yeah, she did the hand covering after the radical line this time too, so i guess it was a direction.
Tony Carlin (Adult Men) We had another understudy here, he was pretty good, although the knee-thing with moritz happened again. It was weird and definitely not as powerful. And he did a terrible job with the crying in left behind. it was so pathetic and fake.
Gabriel Violett (Otto) Nothing bad to say, he was great
Matt Doyle (Hanschen) Last time I saw Matt as Hanschen, i hated it. But, i really loved his performance this time. And i just realized at stage door today how cute he is
Blake Daniel (Ernst) Great as usual, nothing really to say
Andew Durand (Georg) I LOVED his georg.
Gerard Canonico (Moritz) Eh..........I didn;t like him as moritz, like at all. It looked like he was constipated the whole time. He looked like he was trying too hard. I love him as a person though, he was really nice after the show. I ahve no idea how the smoking doesn;t kill his voice.
Hunter Parrish (Melchior) I love him. Yes, I loved him. He played the part wonderfully, he had emotion, he actually made the crying in the graveyard realistic (goodbye "ho ho ho") One thing that pissed me off was that he said "died" as a question. Like it was like.. 'oh, look, did die?"
Other notes:
-The sex scene was so violent... it was pretty scary. It was definitely more forceful than it was before, but i think it was kinda meant to be that way.
-I honestly don't think it was Hunter at all that made the beating scene comic, it was alexandra (thankfully we only got a few chuckles tonight.)It was her wierd inflections that made the words sound like they were meant to be funny.
More to come as i think longer.......
